As we welcome No 5, we were overjoyed that in it’s last outing in the competitions No 4 won the NV English Sparkling Wine Trophy at the biggest and most respected wine competition of them all the International Wine Challenge. With No 5 we continue on the same path, but in my view the potential is even greater. Being based on 2016 it was the only wine we made that year as we lost 65% of our crop to frost. Annoyingly it turned out to be a great year but we simply didn’t have the volume to make any other wines. It shows real elegance and freshness on release and the 20% barrel aged reserves really add those extra textural elements that give it our signature structure and weight.
This has the potential to be a very long-lived NV and maybe even eclipse its predecessor. Let’s see!
